EPILOBIUM    WILLOWHERBS

Epilobium hirsutum*.   Great Willowherb or Codlins-and-Cream.   Tall stems bear hairy leaves and rich rosy-pink flowers, each with a conspicuous white four-lobed stigma, in summer.  A good bee plant, preferring damp situations and spreading by rhizomes. The bruised flowering shoots and young seed pods have a lovely apple scent.

Epilobium hirsutum 'Album'* (S)

The lovely pure white-flowered form of great willowherb.  £4.50

Epilobium hirsutum 'Caerphilly Castle'* (S)

A strangely double form of great willowherb: some of the  flowers are single; some have just one or two small extra petals; some have four normal extra petals and some are very blowsy-looking.  Bees don't seem to mind!  True from seed.  £4.50

Epilobium hirsutum ‘Spring Lime’* (S).   An unusual foliage form of great willowherb in which the new shoots are lime green suffused with gold in early spring.  Typical rose-pink flowers.  Comes true from seed.  £4.50.

Epilobium hirsutum ‘Well Creek’*

Variegated form of great willowherb: the grey green leaves have a creamy white margin that is most striking in summer, setting off the rich pink flowers to perfection. Will not self-seed. £5.00
